Returning to photograph sessions in Edmonton always makes my heart happy, and even more so when I get to visit a familiar barn where I rode for many years. Even after moving away, equine sessions in the Edmonton area always bring me so much joy, seeing familiar faces, returning to photograph the same horses and clients year after year, bumping into people I haven’t seen in years - there is a sense of community that I just love.
So getting to photograph Kat’s two beautiful horses at Paints Plus put a big smile on my face - not to mention that they were both delightful to work with and Kat was so warm and friendly. Kat’s dad also joined us at the session, and it was obvious that he and Kat share a very special and close relationship, and that they are able to connect over their shared love of the horses - he even helped give Neptune his name! Khaleesi however is undoubtedly her dad’s heart horse, and they share an absolutely adorable connection.
The portraits that we capture at a Fine Art Equine session never tell the full story. We capture the beauty, elegance and strength of the horses, but even in these short 30 minute sessions I am able to witness the connection between human and animal, and always try to capture at least one moment where we can witness the wordless bond shared between a horse and their human.
