Cadence & Zero | Golden Oak Farms | Equestrian Grad Portraits by Calgary Equestrian Photographer

This was the second time I had photographed Zero, the first being for Christmas portraits many years prior (2021 I think?). There is something funny about photographing clients years apart, for when I see them again it feels like not much time has passed at all, but in reality years have gone by and Cadence had grown from a young teenager to a young woman about to graduate and start adulthood. I suppose life has a funny way of sneaking up on us like that. In that time, Zero had also lost his eye, however Cadence said this had actually been an incredibly positive change for the gelding. He was calmer, more self-assured, and less anxious.

The two of them were a beautiful partnership to capture at golden hour at Golden Oak Farms, which has the most beautiful backdrop to capture the sunset. Cadence lucked out with the perfect evening for her equestrian grad portraits, and her sparkly silver dress just glowed in the sunshine. It was an incredibly magical evening and one that I won’t soon forget. I hope I can photograph this pair again down the line, and be again surprised that so much time has passed between. I find my memory is much like a photograph, freezing my clients and their horses in my mind on a magical golden evening, to exist there until we meet again.

“We have gone through lots of tough times together, the most significant being when he lost his

eye in october of 2023. We were unsure of how he would recover, but he has bounced back better than ever!”
