I actually photographed Bravia twice over the last two years, and so this blog features images from both sessions. Maighan reached out to me in the fall of 2024 to capture her beautiful young mare. After a disappointing result with another photographer, she was searching for someone to capture the stunning bay filly. I was determined to make sure this time she received excellent portraits that she could cherish for decades, remembering her young and fiery filly. Bravita was still a yearling at our first session (no you won’t believe it by looking at the photos), and a little annoyed with what we were asking of her. But with the help of lots of cookies and patience, we were able to capture some stunning portraits of her.
The following summer, Maighan had me back to capture Bravita now as a two year old, and at liberty. She wanted to capture her personality and athleticism, and Bravia certainly understood the message. I have never seen a horse as keen to gallop laps around her field as this one was, and at times I was a bit concerned for our safety, as she would seem to be heading straight for us. It really is hard to believe she still has so much growing to do, Maighan will certainly haver her work cut out for her under saddle but she will make the most incredible athlete one day!
Bravita is a very special filly for Maighan, she shares the bloodlines with her heart horse mare who she tragically lost due to a pasture accident. The two mares share a striking resemblance and she is helping to fill a whole left behind in Maighan’s heart. The young filly has big hooves to fill but I have no doubt she will do so, and then some!
