Nicole & Champ | Saskatoon, Saskatchewan | End of Life Portraits by Calgary Equestrian Photographer

This session with Nicole is one that I will never forget. Some clients and horses stick with you for years after you meet, and this is one of those. Nicole reached out to me, knowing that after many incredible years together, her time with Champ was coming to an end.

So what is it that makes some sessions extra special? I’ve been asking myself that lately and what I’ve realized is that it has very little to do with the photos themselves. It’s being able to connect with another person over a shared love and connection with horses. Not every equestrian experiences a bond like Nicole and Champ in their lifetime. To love a horse for decades, not for what it can offer you, or for how competitive it is in the ring. To love a horse simply for being a horse, to care for it into its senior years, to build your entire life around an animal that can never express any love or gratitude in return. The clients who resonate with me the most are like myself, and Nicole, whose love for the horse runs so much deeper than any love for the sport, or even love for riding.

“We became an amazing team.

We always get compliments on our relationship and connection.

Ever since owning him I have spent most of my days with him and he has been a major part of my life.

When I got sick he took care of me the whole time and now it is my turn to take care of him.” - Nicole
