Calgary Equestrian Senior Portraits | Maddie & Rush

Graduation season is almost upon us again in Alberta and I am so excited to help more beautiful graduates immortalize this season and accomplishment in their lives. And that’s not even the best part - here at Reversed Eye Photography it just wouldn’t be a graduation session if the horse wasn’t included!

I started leasing Rush around 4 months ago, so everything is still pretty new. However just in these couple months I have grown to love him so so much, probably more than I ever thought I could with a horse. I just love him and his goofy personality.

One of my favourite memories is early on in our partnership, instead of riding I chose to just hang out with him in the arena. We had the place to ourselves so I was able to let him be free and just be with him. We had the absolute best time, he would follow me around, trotting and cantering after me. After that I felt that we understood each other so much better.

I had photographed Maddie a few times before, but it had been a couple years since our last session, it was hard to believe that she was already graduating! It is such a privilege over the years to get to watch my clients grow and change, and to help them capture such important occasions in their lives. Maddie was beautiful and confident for our session, and she certainly needed that confidence to handle Rush that evening, as he was not the most keen participant. Nobody can tell me that horse girls aren’t the strongest people out there; there aren’t many people who could handle a 1200 lb animal with a mind of their own, and in high heels and a gown, all while maintaining a smile. If Maddie approaches life after high school with the same attitude that she approaches dealing with a misbehaving horse, I have no doubt she’ll be doing amazing things.

Getting ready to celebrate your own graduation?

Why not do it the horse girl way?

If you are anything like me, your horse was a big part of getting you through High School! They were there to listen to you rant about all the drama, or to provide the best study break when you needed it or to remind you about what really matters when you were feeling lost and confused about what your next steps were after graduation. I know I couldn’t have done it without Diesel ❤️

We may never be able to thank these amazing animals enough for all that they do for us but we can preserve our memories with them in beautiful images!

I have had multiple sessions with Reversed Eye now and the photos have always exceeded my expectations. From the very first session I just knew she had to be the one to take my graduation photos. Even though Rush was very ill-mannered, Annakah couldn’t have handled it better. She never once made me feel bad for my horse not behaving and was supportive and kind throughout the entire session. She helped me keep my cool as well, as having a misbehaving horse while wearing a big dress and five inch heels- and trying to pose for photos- is not the easiest thing in the world. Not only was Annakah amazing throughout the session, but the photos are more beautiful then I could have ever imagined- you wouldn’t even know he wasn’t a perfectly mannered young man. Overall, if you’re considering booking a session with Reversed Eye, I can promise you won’t regret it, and that it’s worth every penny.
