Ginger | Parkland County, Alberta | Black Background Portraits by Alberta Equestrian Photographer

It always brings me joy getting to capture the same horses multiple times, seeing them age and change with time, even if it means seeing new grey hairs arrive with time. I am reminded each day when I see my own gelding’s face peppered with grey hairs that aging is a fact of life that we all must face, and a privilege denied to many, so it is a true gift to witness a beloved heart horse grow old.

This was the second time capturing Ginger, the first being for Karlee’s graduation session a couple years ago. Even at that time, I know that Karlee worried how much time she would have left with Ginger, so it was very special to know that she is still healthy and happy, and to capture her in this beautiful stage of life. No time is promised for any of us, but it makes me smile to know that Karlee gets to see Ginger out her front door every day that she remains here. One day these portraits will be a precious reminder of her beautiful mare, but I hope that day doesn’t come for a long long time.

“I got Ginger when I was 11, she was my first horse I could call my own. My absolute heart horse.”
