Alberta Sunset Horse & Rider Portraits with Karlee & Ginger

A session deserving of a Valentine’s day blog post if there ever was one. This session was horse girl and fairytale vibes to the nines, sprinkled with a bit of Taylor Swift “Speak Now” magic. The pink and purple cotton candy skies just scream Valentine’s day to me 💜🩷 and Karlee and Ginger’s love was so obvious, it’s absolutely meant for the day that we celebrate all things love!

I met ginger when I was 11 and she was 16! She was my first horse. The day i went to try her, she whinnied at me. I bought her that day. She’s taught me everything I known about riding and life too. She is hands down my heart horse and my soulmate. She always knows how to make me feel better and make me smile; she’s my best friend.

Probably my favourite things to do with Ginger was ride through the fields near my house, she always loved to gallop and buck, and we would watch the sunset together at least once a week at my spot - a open field on top of a hill near my house.

It seemed only fitting that we capture the story of this partnership at their special spot, preserving this simple act of watching the sunset together - forever. While the extravagant elements of a photo session might be beautiful; wearing a fancy dress, getting your hair done, doing your makeup perfectly, it is the simple things that make these images special. Especially in capturing the connection with horse and rider, it is the little things that mean so much. Without any words spoken, the smallest act of leaning your head on their shoulder, or running your fingers through their mane means so much. There is volumes spoken in these silent moments. As Taylor Swift would say - “you can hear in the silence".
