Horse & Rider Session // Roxy & Fox

Fox and Roxy is a partnership that I connected with deeply because it reminded me so much of the story I shared with my own horse and I found a strong sense of familiarity in their connection and friendship with one another. Roxy has owned Fox, who was an off the track Thoroughbred, for 8 years. She bought him with the intention of being her high-level event horse but between the responsibilities of “real life” and Fox not being entirely suited to it, he is now mostly a pasture pony.

“We don’t have many big memories together, but nothing beats the feeling of coming home from a shift and him being the same easy going horse he was before I left for work.”

It is clear that where their journey towards eventing might have stalled, their partnership did not. They are a pair who are obviously very close and share a kindredness for one another, a sense of home and belonging that comes with time, friendship and familiarity. Having taken the time in my own life to just enjoy my horse and the freedom that comes once you remove the pressure of competition and goals, I can understand how profoundly this can flourish your connection with your horse. It was such a joy to capture the wonderful bond between Roxy and Fox and to spend the evening laughing with them.

I hope the story of Roxy and Fox reminds you to take a step back and take joy in your horse, the kind of joy that you took from horses when you were just a little girl and first discovering them. Enjoy the quiet moments, the small successes, the time off and most importantly the light and laughter that they bring to your life.
